Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day! {2011}

Monday, December 12, 2011

Yay! It's back! And I am so excited to be participating this time around in the "giveaway part." I am happy to be offering a custom pillow cover in your choice of state or small country of your choice with a heart in the middle. This can be a large heart or a small one over the area of a city/town that is dear to your heart.

If you are new to my blog, welcome! Feel free to poke around. All of my connection buttons are to the right. And if you do connect these will count as additional entries! {See below} Good Luck!

Custom State pillow: This an example of one that was featured on Secrets of a Stylist on HGTV!

What you need to do to enter is leave a comment about "home"... but please keep reading at least until the "about my pillows section" for full entry details : )

I am by nature a sentimental gal, so when I started making these pillows, it came from my own love of home and all the different ideas and feelings that come to mind when I hear that word...home. As I opened my shop and started selling pillows to others that were also moved by this sentiment, I have been able to share in their stories and feelings of home and it has been a little bit magical.

So I'd love to know what do you think of when you think of "home;" is it a place? A memory? A smell? A friend or relative? L:eave me a thoughtful comment about home in the comments section for one entry.

{More chances to win!} If you are feeling like you want to up your chances to win one of these pillow covers:

  • Become a follower of my blog for a second entry.
  • For a third follow me on facebook.
  • For a forth follow me on twitter.
*Just be sure to leave a comment for each additional entry! And remember for just the one entry all you have to do is leave a comment telling me about "home."

 A little about my pillows

I make all my embroidery pillow covers on high quality linen and linen blend fabrics. I use french color fast embroidery thread and line the pillow to protect the threads. The back is an envelope closure (because zippers can cause problems down the road; and I want these special pieces to last a long time!). The backs are either a linen or natural cotton. All pillows are hand-stitched by me; the inside seams are serged, not once, but twice, again to ensure the life of your pillows. You can see more of my work at my Etsy Shop Plumed. These pillow covers retail from $36 to $40.

                        The Details

Giveaway ends on December 16th at 5pm PST. I will ship internationally. I will chose with a random number generator, this gives those that provide extra entries more chances to win! Ya hoo! Winner will be contacted by December 18th; there will be a post announcing the winner that day. I will also contact winner via email (so make sure the email attached to your comment is one you check!). Because this is a custom made item and it is to be shipped by the 24th of December, I will need a quick response from the winner : ) So make sure to check your inboxes on the 18th or check back on my blog! If I don't hear back from the first winner on the 18th I will chose a second on the 19th.

  2. These are really lovely! Glad to discover your shop as well. I subscribe to the old notion that home is where the heart is! As long as my husband and cat are there...it's home.

    ReplyDelete
  3. These are beautiful! I've moved around so much my whole life, that I really think of home as the place wherever my family and I are together. It's not so much about where I hang my hat as who I'm hanging it next to. Thanks for posting! Visiting via SMS Giveaway Day. :)

  4. We have moved several times for my husband's job, he gave me a magnet years ago that goes with us on every move, 'Home is where your mom is'.

  5. My husband and I bought our first house just about a year ago, and it's sharing the space with family, friends, and our newly adopted dog that have made it home.

  6. Home is where my kids are! I love these pillows!

  7. Home is not easy to define - home will probably always be where I grew up and where my parents still love, but home is also where I went to college and my best friend still is, and Scotland, where I lived for the most exhilarating year of my life, and of course, this nest where my husband and pets and I live is also "home". I guess "home" is akin to the Velveteen Rabbit's "real" - it is what is loved.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  10. I was raised in central TX (the pretty part of TX) but live in NM so I would like either pillow. I would love to make TX my home again sometime but don't actually see that anywhere in my future :'( I do still get to visit my family there regularly, though.

So home is wherever my husband and I make it. With our children and dog.

  23. I always think of water when I think of home- I grew up on the mouth of the Columbia River (which is about 4 miles wide here in town), in the Pacific Northwest (Rain, tons of Rain), and 10 minutes from the Pacific Ocean (walking on the cold beach in the cold rain in the summer- classic activity around here). Thank you for the wonderful giveaway. kcarlson1152[at]hotmail.com

  26. Very cool! Home, to me, has always been a matter of where I'm comfortable- and there aren't many places I'm not comfortable. Blame it on growing up a military brat and moving on a regular basis, but I figure my home is earth.

Right now my home is Denver, Colorado- which would be an easy state to embroider, what with it being a simple rectangle, but I'm not entirely sure people would see it and think "Oh, Colorado!" rather than "Oh, a rectangle with a heart!" I'm curious how you handle Colorado- I'm going to have to go dig around your shop and see if I can figure it out.

  35. Love linen, love the sentiment, love these pillows.
Love my family, but know this world is not my home, I'm just a passin' through...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have two ideas of home: The first and most important is, of course, wherever my hubby and kids are. The second, is Connecticut. I was born here and have lived here my entire life. High cost of living aside, it's got oceans and beaches, mountains, it's close to cities, and most importantly, it has 4 distinct seasons. I can't imagine living anywhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Home is definitely where my family is & that has always been pa!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love these pillow covers - I especially like the Australia one for some reason. :)

As many other have said, home for me is wherever the husband and pooch are. I can feel at home camping in a tent, as long as our little family full of love is there. That being said, I was born in Minnesota, grew up in Colorado, and have now settled in Minnesota again. I have thought many times about moving, and there are a lot of places I've visited that I love and think I could make a home in, but there is just something about Minnesota. When I really think about leaving, my heart just swells with love for this state...

I think of noisy chaos when I think of home (in a good way). There were 5 kids in our family and my 3 cousins lived next door. Holiday meals meant all of us and more. We usually had around 30 people for dinner. And now we all have kids of our own running around my parents' at Christmas. It's great.

  89. I am going to get personal here... My little family became homeless at the beginning of the year through no fault of our own. It has been insane trying to keep our hearts from breaking especially our 3 children. We have learnt so much while on this journey and the one thing we always told our kids was that we'll all be together (even though that was nearly taken away too) no matter what and it doesn't matter where we end up because when we are together we are always home!! *sigh* I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday... xo Steph

  90. Home to me is back home. I grew up in Wisconsin and now live in Florida. When I see snow, I think of home. When I smell scents like sandalwood, amber, patchouli, I think of home because the house always had those scents around. Cheese curds make me think of home. Well, cheese in general. I may love the beach and I always knew I'd live at one, but my heart will always belong in Wisconsin.

  101. I love those pillows! I feel most at home in the kitchen. When I go back to my parents, it's the first place I go. After a time away from our home, I don't feel like we're "home" until I make dinner. I think because so many great conversations happen in the kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I never really felt at home until I met my husband. He IS my home. When he deploys, our house isn't a home because my heart (and the kids' as well) are across the world with him. We always set a place for him at the table even when he isn't here for months. Once he comes back, we're all home even if the rest of us are exactly where we were for the entire deployment.

  128. I think these pillows are just adorable. I've recently been really motivated to clean out my home on the principle of keeping nothing that I do not "know to be useful or believe to be beautiful". I read that quote on a blog a few months ago, and it's been such a good filter as we strive to get things in order. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  129. When I think of home I think of walking into my grandmas where it is always really warm! Our new home is quite cold so it doesn't feel as homely.

Thank you for the lovely giveaway.

  135. Since we moved away from our home in California, I've learned that "home' is more about being together, feeling that sense of sanctuary and comfort. For us, now, home is Oregon, but I know we could be anywhere together and we'd be home.

  138. I am lucky enough to have many "homes." My husband and I live in a different state from our families, but I always think of visiting my parents or my in-laws as going home. And when the visit is over we go home to our home. My best friend's parents are also a second (or third or fourth) home. akmajor (at) gmail (dot) com

  146. Really like your neat idea. Home is complicated. I am from country number 1; Ten years ago while living in country number 2 I met my husband. We moved to country number 3 and and then to country number 4 and back to country number 3; Children were born and moved about. Recently we moved to country number 5, where my husband is originally from. Three languages are spoken at home, so, yeah, home, and what home is complicated!

  148. Home is where I live right now with my family. While it's nice to visit my parents, I always think it's odd when I mention a visit to them and my friends say, "Oh, you're going home?" Nope. It's not my home anymore. Though I do still love my home state more than any other we've lived in.

  149. Whenever I travel, I appreciate that home for me is sometimes that feeling of curling up in my own bed and laying my head down on my pillow. Of course, my kids have to be tucked in and asleep in their beds first!

  154. I think of my mother when I think of home. I also see in my mind a darkened room filled with firelight and family. Yep, seriously. I think it's an image from childhood when the power would go out and we got to do things by candlelight, firelight and camping stoves. It was such an adventure.

  158. Home. There are different kinds of homes. My family has to be in the equation for it to be home. So right now home for me is when my son and husband are present. But I have a home in my heart for Tanzania, Africa. Where I lived in my childhood. I'm a third culture kid, and have some difficulties associating myself with a home in the US. Africa will always hold that special "Home" catagory for me. I hope to share
my "home" someday with my son.

Thank you for the chance to win this special item. :)

  166. Home is still my parents house. I lived there my whole life until I got married. I still call it home, and have actually been practicing calling my new house "home" even though we've already lived here over a year. It still just isn't the same as my real home! :)
