It's a bird, it's a plane

We finally got some heat in Portland this weekend! It was 102 on saturday which also happens to be the first day we broke 90.  I like it. I don't think I'd like it everyday but there is no threat of that here, so I enjoy it kind of like I enjoy snow days (we don't get much snow around here either). I think I like the sometimes happy chaos that weather can bring here in Portland because our range in weather is so very small, everyone goes a little nuts (in a good way). So, not to miss out on some happy misery, I decided, to go find some water and we went to lake near my house. It was so crowded, not so great in general but great for people watching, which it turned out to be all we had energy for in our overheated stupor. We just sat on a grassy knoll, too hot to fight for a spot in the water and ate some snacks, even M+L laid back on our blanket and looked up at the big blue sky rather than the normal running off in two different directions. They would announce a curiosity they spotted here or there while my oldest ate a bag of cherries and I sat taking a photo here and there. At one point M said, "look mama it's a bird." Then L said "it's a plane.

How was your weekend?

  2. You're just now getting temps over 90ºdegrees? Wow! No wonder it was crowded at the beach. Perhaps it's time to find your own private beach? Hmmm. I live in Northern California and I know beaches along the coast no one goes to. If it's hot enough, I'll go. If it's tepid, I'm somewhere along Monterey Bay because the water is slightly warmer, emphasis on "slightly." BTW, love your photos.

    1. yes, sad huh? i love the carolina's! we used to visit the islands off of south (south) carolina. the beaches there are so fantastic! and i think when you do get a full summer the beaches don't get as crowed as here when we only get a day or two that is beach worthy! i often dream of moving your way when our summers (of late) are hard pressed to reach 75 degrees!

  3. Shew, it's been so hot and muggy here all summer. I would love to live somewhere where the weather never dropped below 60 or over 90. :) Love your photos!

  5. How fun! I love the heat, but I also love the very first snowfall of the winter. And I'm even starting to have a crazy love for thunderstorms. They show God's power in an awesome way...until of course destruction happens from them. Then they just scare the heck out of me. Haha! Glad you had a great weekend at the lake. :)

    Blessings,
