Let me just first get out of the way that my 14 year old son dressed as "the dude" from the Big Lewboski kind of freaked me out (or maybe creeped me out?). It was like a scary glimpse into the future. Yes, someday (soon, eek!) I will be the mother of a bonafide adult but hopefully he won't drink half and half out of the carton and walk around in his boxers and a robe! M+L did a great job as Plants vs Zombies staying in character the whole evening. (Plants v Zombies is an Iphone game if you didn't know. My parenting plummets when they get ahold of my phone and I completely turn a blind eye). M was the "pea shooter" and L was the zombie. Though if halloween were tomorrow the roles may have needed to be reversed because when we came home there was a (sugar induced?) wrestling match which turned a little ugly and resulted in M getting a giant, giant I say, black eye when he was pushed off the bed into the side table. PANIC MODE, which I am usually pretty good about not going into but when there is a inch thick pool of blood protruding under the skin next to the eye of your widdle baby it just does funny things to you. Luckily with ice it went down significantly and quickly. I checked his cognitive skills and all that and then the ability to reason came back over me which kept me from rushing him off to the emergency room for no reason - though the next picture you see of M he will probably be sporting a shiner, poor little guy.

Hope you all had a splendid Halloween and Happy Dia de los Muertos! It's one of my favorite days of the year. I always make a nice dinner and light candles all around my house in honor of my grandparents. Are you having any day of the dead celebrations tonight? xo

  3. Your kids' costumes were fantastic. And yikes on the black eye! Boys... I never had any brothers growing up so all the rough and tumble play is a bit foreign to me. I don't know if I'd be able to sit through it all calmly :)

    1. i was an only child and then i had an only child for ten years before i had my twins, so i was completely mortified for quite awhile at the way they were so "violent" with each other. now i realize it's just more natural for them to be physical - though i'm still not loving it when they actually cause serious injuries to each other!

  4. I legitimately thought I'd gotten it wrong and that your husband was going as The Dude. Spooky! He looks so grown up! What a winning set of costumes they all had. But what a total bummer about the black eye! Poor thing. I got one when I was in 3rd grade. They hurt like the devil but make you look sort of tough! I hope it heals up soon. Happy Dia de los Muertos to you, too!

    1. oh, yeah, i could see that! i was hoping he looked like something else recognizable because it kinds of looks like a hot mess of a costume if you don't know what plants vs zombies is ; )

  11. Hi Christine!
I've stumbled upon a few of your comments on others' pages and each time I think to myself, "yeah, what she said!". We must float around a similar blog circle. :)
Anyway, I finally decided to pop over to your page and my goodness, I dig your style. I will certainly be following along now!

More relevant to this post? Your kids look hilariously adorable. I have a HUGE appreciation for homemade (and creative!) costumes. Also, your "Dude" looks like a full grown "Dude". Holy Crap, I see your unease!

Cheers to finding tastefully clever new (to me) blogs! Enjoy your weekend.
