I absolutely love Judith Gigliotti's photography, especially her beach scenes. I feel certain I could get lost looking at all the beach goers for hours and find something new and intriguing each time. The way she plays with light some of her photographs almost take on a painted quality but look up close and you will see it's all real and current as well - when I first saw these beach photos I was certain they were from another era. Gigliotti's work has become very popular with interior designers who want to give a space large scale art with pops of color and visual interest. French Toast With Berry Compote
Wednesday, June 27, 2012
I love breakfast because it always feels intimate to wake up and make something yummy for those you love. But maybe that's because I usually resort to cereal or oatmeal for my kids. . . One of my favorite treats to make them is heart shaped french toast. For this I made french toast by adding a little coconut milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg to the egg batter. While my french toast was cooking I also cut up some and strawberries added them to a saucepan with blueberries - making a compote by simply letting them simmer in a covered pan to reduce a bit. I cut my french toast with a cookie cutter, placed the compote between two the pieces and topped it with powdered sugar. My little ones devoured every bite and I did too!
Eco Wool Cell Rugs
Monday, June 25, 2012
Lama concepts, a dutch design studio, has recently introduced a new carpet that incorporates LED lighting into the design. It has been used by Airbus and Landrover but is also available for the average consumer - okay, maybe not average because while I can't find a price on these I am going to assume that it's pretty high. The rugs can be custom tailored to the homeowners needs/tastes. And not only are they are hip and innovative but they are eco friendly too, using wool felt and the low energy LEd lights. For the right space I think this could be pretty fantastic and I imagine kids may find this extra cool as bedroom flooring - no more scary night time trips to the bathroom!
When East Meets West
Sunday, June 24, 2012
I ran across this plate set "when east meets west" exclusively made for Hygge & West. I love the delicate look of them coupled with a fun graphic. The set comes with 4 plates measuring 7.5 inches in diameter. The best part? They are on clearance for only $20 for the gold and $15 for the black finish. I think these would make a fabulous wedding gift or an affordable splurge for yourself! Hygge&West.

Today marks the one-year anniversary of my etsy shop Plumed!
- June 21st 2011 - What began as a little idea I had while laying in bed one night has completely turned into this wonderful adventure and has truly changed my life for the better. It has been such a personal journey and I know this first-year will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember every order - which is amazing because I am hard-pressed to remember what happened 24 hours ago under normal circumstances. I have made so many pillow covers that have been heartfelt gifts and filled my heart as I made them: for mothers and friends, for girlfriends and grandmothers - from bride-maids to brides and friends that live thousands of miles away. From dads who are decorating their their child's room to gifts welcoming a new baby. Pillows have been shipped from one end of the earth to the next and I have had the opportunity to chat with some of you from half way around the world - from Greece to Tasmania. How could I not love this work? My second customer was a design star, literally, she was an HGTV design star winner, and at the time it felt like the biggest compliment in the world. But I found the bigger compliment to be when I see a familiar name pop up "needing" another pillow for a loved one or to decorate just one more space in their house - that by far is the most glorious of compliments. So that little "idea" has given me the opportunity to have my children at my heels as I work and dream of far away places that these little pillows will travel and upcoming weddings in Lake Tahoe, birthday celebrations, holidays and Grandma's from Ireland.
So with that, it's not only about the success that my customers purchases has allowed me to achieve - but the stories that have been shared with me that added this fabulous texture to my world and my life. I am absolutely looking forward to year two and hopefully many years after that as I, and my products, continue to grow. xx - Christine
