It's a new week! I am feeling pretty excited about that as this last one was spent in complete fog on my couch surrounded by my flu-ridden boys. I am looking forward to being back the normal speed of life with rambunctious children running around and the energy to tackle my to-do lists.

Having spent the last week or so on my couch with sick children I found myself starting to really dislike mine. I actually like my sofa and I am sure my sudden disdain for it was purely due to the circumstances of feeling like I was growing into it, but I did idle a little time away on pinterest daydreaming of getting it reupholstered someday. Do people still do that? I have looked into prices before and I think it would actually be more expensive than buying a new couch. But I love the idea of picking out my own fabric and creating an amazing statement piece. Right now, without actually having to make a choice, I am quite liking these blue velvet numbers. However, if it were a real decision to be made I am not sure I'd go in this direction, I'd probably go with a nice classic and safe tweed, but it's fun to daydream, no? Hope you all had a great weekend and the storms and flu bugs stayed clear of your paths.

  1. We had a blue velvet couch growing up, and it ever looked as cool as these!

  2. Gorgeous inspiration! Thank you, I dreamed of a reupholstered blue velvet couch for... years! Of course, even if I was prepared to get a DIY project, the cost of the velvet was way too much.... (so now I just look at the awesome pics.... and I also purchased a colorful velvet for my couch for only 15 bucks)

  3. And now I have the Lana Del Rey song of the same name stuck in my head! Not a bad way to start a Monday :) I like the velvet look a lot, but it wouldn't be practical with Fitz (or, let's be honest, me). These are really striking though! I think you can find some cheap reupholstery somewhere. If you were feeling especially brave you could even tackle it yourself! Nina over at Living in 40 has taken a few reupholstery classes, you should check out her archives!

  4. Hmmm...I actually think blue velvet could be fairly safe. I just read somewhere that if you get the right velvet (Was it in Martha Stewart Living maybe?) it's pretty easy to spot clean and those blues are nice easy neutrals. You could even go velvet in the back cushions or something like that. I really, really want you to get a new sofa. ;)

  6. I'm so sorry you've been sick! I know what you mean about couch day-dreaming, have you seen the new CB2 teal couches? I've been daydreaming away about those ones! I did have my anthropologies couch reupholstered in silver velvet when I moved a few years ago and now wish I'd chosen flax...haha, the grass is always greener...

  7. Swoon- I wonder if velvet couldn't be treated with Scotch Guard. There must be a way to make it work with the little ones. By the way, I hope they're all feeling better.

  8. These are such a rich looking shade of blue. I think if you love the style and comfort of your sofa then it's often a good idea to have it reupholstered.

  9. I love the shade of blue! I know of people who have done their own reupholstering (what a weird word!) but couches are the hardest.

  10. I love the idea of a blue velvet sofa. Growing up, my parents had a gold velvet sofa that I loved. I like those tree stump stools and the cowhide rug shown in the pictures too!

  11. I hope the boys feel better soon. I am really liking my fabric couch - I finally got to test it for nap-friendliness this weekend

  12. Can you believe I was having the very same thought about reupholstering a sofa we've had for about eight years now? I am still in love with the shape of it, but it could stand new upholstery. I kept wondering if it's cheaper just to buy a brand new sofa, and now you've just answered my question. Thank you. I love the blue velvet ones you selected above. I would love to have a sofa upholstered in linen someday. Someday...
