Marching On

Luckily my sickness turned out to be a little 24 hour thing and was gone by the time the weekend actually arrived. But in my commitment to resting I devoted some time to finish reading "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian." I was only about 5 pages in to begin with, which I started somewhere around 2 years ago when Fisher first read it (he's read it three times now). But I devoured the remaining 224 pages in about 2 hours. I laughed on all the pages that I didn't cry big tears that plopped back down onto the poignantly written pages. If you haven't read this book, do. If I was rich I'd send you all a copy to ensure that you do read it someday. Such a lovely book.

I also got a text on Saturday from a dear soul-mate of a friend of mine saying "it's time . . ." which I knew meant there was a sweet new little baby making his way into the world. While awaiting word of his arrival and in need of the perfect book to read after just finishing such an amazing book I went back to Powell's and got State of Wonder, the one I wished I had gotten the last time I was there (so far so I am really glad I went back for it.). Leaving M+L at home, I made Fisher go with me (alone time? what's that?) and as his reward for keeping me company we got a little dinner at the Sapphire Hotel. The best part was the dessert I had - homemade fresh mint ice cream topped with hazelnut brittle and caramel. And the glass of red wine, that was pretty good too.

Sunday I spent with my friend and her sweet new babe at the hospital. Her husband was spending some quality time with her older son and so we got a few hours of alone time to just talk and eat rice crackers with goat cheese, nibble on dark chocolate and say "he's just so cute!' at least once every 2 seconds. And he is so cute. Nothing like a sweet little new baby. So I didn't sit around and watch bad TV and rest but this was in fact much more refreshing and relaxing, and I am so glad I made the plan to make no plan. Worked out perfectly.

How was your weekend?

  3. I am so happy to hear that you are feeling better! Glad you were able to rest, relax and get some reading done. And welcome to the world little boy! My weekend was pretty productive, I finally painted an old dresser that was on my to-do list for a long long time. It feels so good to cross things off my list. Hope I'll be as productive the next weekend too...xx

  4. Nothing wrong with multiple trips to a bookstore in a short time frame, sounds like heaven to me! And a new cuddly baby! Oh goodness, I already have intense baby fever, this is not a good time to hear about new babies. ;) Your weekend sounded lovely, I'm so relieved you weren't held up with an unpleasant cold or anything. J and I got into Game of Thrones over the weekend, but we also managed to cook a lot (and by we, I mean 'he'), and of course, the weekend staple: laundry. xoxo

    1. this was the first new baby i have met (it's been a few years) that didn't give that baby fever feeling. phew! cuz i am done! but i still feel like i sit and hold them and smell their cute little heads for hours on end. i want to watch g.o.t too but fisher wants me to read this first book first (he's finishing it now). so i will probably start watching it in about 3 years. xoxo

  5. Oh perfect weekend! Little babies! I'm far past the place of having new babies of my own, but so many of my friends are still having them (I'm the old lady, I guess.), and it's so nice to meet all these new little creatures. I'm definitely going to try all the books you've suggested, but you should try Going Clear. Not too scary, yet!

  9. I love weekends when you have no plans but lots of wonderful things happen. I am taking note of the books you've mentioned above. I'm part of a long standing book club and we are always on the hunt for good books. Congratulations to your friend and her beautiful new arrival! Those are some precious times.

    1. i think either of these would be great. the diary one is really short (it has a lot of illustrations) so that would be a good one when your bookclub is having a busy time. both would be excellent books to discuss. if you read them let me know because i don't have a book club! xo
