| Me & Luca |

Day One (above) | Day Two (below)

| Milo |

This weekend we took a little spontaneous trip to Newport Beach which is about 2 and a half hours from Portland. We arrived to find a perfect moody and stormy beach and woke up the next morning to bright blue skies, the best of both worlds me thinks. We took several walks along the bay front to eat fresh caught crab, watch the sea lions and the fishing boats. We took a short walk on the beach Saturday in the wind and rain which made going back to the hotel and sitting in front of the fireplace watching the waves all the better. On Sunday we spent most of the morning looking for tide pools and running from the waves on the beach. Then we found a lovely little breakfast spot that had homemade gluten-free bread and homemade jam, Luca was in heaven, he usually has to forgo all bread products when we go out for breakfast, poor guy - I think that was his favorite part of the trip. We spent the rest of the day traipsing around Nye beach front (and here - they had the best little book store I have ever seen), we did a little window shopping and visited a couple little museums before heading home (that last photo is from outside the museum it is carved from a single tree depicting the Oregon Coast tribes). Of course we stopped for a little smoked salmon on our way out of town too to snack on for our drive back.

It was a really lovely trip but I always forget how exhausting those short little trips away from home can be, so I am going to let the photos do most of my talking. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

  2. Beautiful, Christine! Love the place and the photos. Harbours and fishing boats fascinate me. You are right, these short trips can be very tiring.

    1. i completely agree. i get lost in my imagination of the fisherman's life, it's a romantic in a hard life sort of way.

  3. Okay, third go commenting. I'm going to try typing really fast! ;) I love these photos. Love the pops of color against the muted skies. Just stunning, and I'm thrilled you and your camera are getting along so well. I long to do more of this. Sneaking away for a weekend, to the oceans or mountains. Anywhere. It shouldn't be so hard. You've inspired me. XO

  5. This is my kind of beach trip: off-peak, quiet, moody. Your photos are lovely, and it looks like you & your guys had a really special time. The one shot of your boys standing on that mossy rock with the fog rolling in looks like something out of a fantasy novel set in another land. That's pretty magical. I agree with Meghan above, your hair color is so gorgeous and vibrant, but the love between you and your boys really steals the shot. xoxo

    1. yes! i wanted to go before spring break. i am definitely an off-peak kind of gal, i much prefer a local vibe experience to a touristy one.

isn't that photo interesting? the moss was so green it gave the whole area around it this very green/orange hue to it and the clouds were just breaking at sunset, it felt like lord of the rings for a minute or two. and geez, thanks, good thing i have good hair color because i don't think it's been cut in a year. so. overdue!

    1. the sky was so blue, it was really pretty especially coming from the city where i don't get to see such a large stretch of sky too often.

  7. This is the kind of beach I like to visit! I guess I'm just jaded by the Florida beaches, but this seems so picture-perfect. Snacking on smoked salmon on the way home? The icing on the cake!

    1. the salmon was so good i must say. this is my favorite beach in oregon, i think because it has both a very nostalgic fishing town feel to it along with lots of big beach fronts.

  8. Oh my goodness, you are working some magic with that camera. I'm with Erin, I do love a moody, quiet, and reflective beach. Your photos and quick getaway are making me want to jump in the car right now. Let's see, if we drive 2-1/2 hours north, we would land in Santa Barbara. Another pretty, picturesque beach town.
PS~The photo of you and Luca is beautiful!

    1. thank you theresa! i agree with both you and erin. while i love a tropical beach the beaches here don't fit that bill so i actually prefer it when it's a bit moody, but the sun was a super nice surprise.
