Photo Diary | The Weekend |

Hope everyone had a loverly weekend! I realized I haven't properly introduced my new camera! These are a few photos I took with it over weekend while getting out for some walks. As you can see we had some crazy beautiful clear blue skies and some typical rainy March skies, and a mix of both. It started off sunny and pretty warm so when the rain came around it still left the mood of spring in the air.

So without further ado . . . I am really happy with the camera I (finally) chose! I got the Nikon 5100 and an extra 35mm lens for less than most of the other bodies cost (w/o a lens) that I was looking at. I haven't been taking a ton of shots with it yet and am focusing on taking outside day time shots right now (mostly because we have been having such lovely weather!). I figured that may be a good way to get to know the camera setting by setting (Nikon is new to me) and maybe shed any bad habits I have picked up over the years. But, wow, DLSR's have come a long way in ten years! The reason I went with the one I did was mainly the price, but also the fact that it takes great photos in low light. Happy, happy, it's true, it does! If my house has feelings it is happy too because I have been hating on it and it's west facing windows for the last few years. So the new camera has also eased some of the tension between me and mi casa. I am excited to move on to mastering the no-flash-indoor settings next.

With the lovely weather we were out and about most of the weekend but it also inspired me to finally clean off my front porch and buy a couple new flower containers and a doormat. What a difference! I can't wait to go the nursery and find some lovely flora to fill them with. I also finished my last new read State of Wonder and it was so good I am having a heck of a time finding a new book. I tried to start three books but they all feel flat after reading that one.

  1. Beautiful photos Christine - the first one looks like a postcard! I curse my dark and dreary house too and the fact that it is ALWAYS overcast doesn't help indoor photo taking either. My Sony dslr just isn't coping with the low light conditions inside so I am off to research your Nikon!

  8. Well, I would say that you and your new camera are becoming fast friends. Great shots, Christine!
Don't you just hate when you finish a really great book and everything you try to read after isn't as good? It makes me want to re-read that last book. But then I know what happens and I crave some suspense. Keep trying, you'll find another good one soon. Oh, and hurray for new flora. I bought some budding branches at the market and they're making me smile.
