While I did mention just a couple of days ago a feeling of readiness creeping in for the start of fall, I think what I am actually ready for is enjoying the winding down of summer. These pales of peach and blush evoke that feeling for me in the the way these colors can be gently cast from a blazing setting sun at the end of a warm day. Yesterday was Fisher's school registration for his sophomore year (this still sounds completely insane to me - when people say time goes so much faster after your kids start school, they are right.) I realized we only have one full week left before school starts. I don't want to rush and packs weeks of summer into it or be franticly searching the picked through school supplies at Target. I just want to enjoy it. Languish in the easiness of summer before we are steered back into the routines that are awaiting us. Get my fill of summer fruit, late nights and lingering mornings.

  1. Our summer is winding down too. Cal starts on Monday and a lot of my friends' kids start today, actually. The end of summer is always a bit bittersweet to me, but I'm ready too. There are always surefire signs for me. The acorns start pinging off the things in the back yard, the sun is setting earlier, and I hate all my summer clothes. :) I love this mood board. Makes me want to go work on my Pinterest board some more! XO

    1. haha, i definitely am hating all my summer clothes, especially since it's been so hot - i normally can normally use a lot of my clothes year round. this year i have been rotating about 4 outfits!

some of my friends kids start next week too. it just doesn't seem right to start school in august! and we just collected a few baby acorns the other day :) then i went into the craft store and saw halloween stuff and my heart ached a little bit. it's so lovely to actually look forward to fall this year!

  3. I know it's a bit dastardly to admit but I kinda want to go school supply shopping. I'm sure as a parent, you're completely over it but I always get a little thrill picking out new paper, pens and markers

    1. oh, i like school shopping too! i just don't like it when i say "what do you need?" and then i hear "nothing" and then the night before school we are at target at 10 pm getting the things he DID in fact need and of course there's nothing left ;) i am hoping to avoid that whole thing ;)

  4. Okay, I'll crack. I'm going to miss summer fruit like nobody's business. There is something about fresh Jersey peaches in the summer that cannot be beat. I cannot believe you are old enough to have a high school sophomore!! That's crazy! xo

    1. i can't believe it either. i really can't. it just goes so fast. one day you have this cute little kid and then all of a sudden they are almost grown - yet you still feel exactly the same. it's so strange.

  6. I enjoy so much the brisk mornings and nights of the end of summer, although the days are still so hot here. And I think we are preparing for an Indian summer too. I love the toned down shades in these photos and the dress is so pretty!

  8. This talk of winding the summer down and settling in for fall is seriously depressing me :( Especially since I never got to enjoy a summer!

  9. i am ready for the end of summer too. right now, it's still hot into the evenings and i am so looking forward to when the temperature cools with the dropping sun. all of these colors are so perfect for just before autumn begins. this is my first semester in my life that i am not going back to school into another round of classes... i feel like in a blink of an eye you'll be saying the same about fisher! sophomore year of high school feels like forever ago, but at the same time my entire college career blinked by.

    1. he only has finished one year of high school but i feel like it went so fast! i feel like it's exactly as you say it's just going to fly by. and then when it does he'll be an adult. so weird. xo

  10. I love the soft muted tones of these wonderful images. I really don't want summer to end as this year we have enjoyed some gorgeous warm sunny days and blue skies - a treat when previous summers have been so wet!

    1. i couldn't agree more. our last several summers have been terrible and this one has been amazing. but it both makes me feel ready for the fall and wanting to keep the summer going for as long as possible.

  11. I like fall. it always gives me more of a sense of a new beginning than new years. but I can also relate to not wanting to let summer go. what to do? what to do?

    :)
