Photo Diary: At The Market

Monday, August 19, 2013

Happy Monday! Did everyone have a lovely weekend? Our Saturday was mostly spent working, with one of the things we worked being the desk we found for Fisher's room. It's been such a long time since I have refinished a piece of furniture I forgot how labor intensive it is and how many steps there are: sanding, scrapping, stripping, sanding again . . . And I have an even deeper appreciation for all the amazing projects that Nina of Number 40, not only takes on, but finishes! (You can see a couple of them here and here.) We are finally almost done, one more coat of paint to go. Woo hoo.

Sunday we went downtown to Saturday market which obviously is also on Sundays. It was a beautiful day as it has been almost everyday this summer (miracles do happen!). I hadn't been to Saturday market for a long time but I have to say it was much the same as the last time I went, which is also much the same as it was when I spent every weekend down there as a teenager. It's a great place to go for handcrafted goodies and especially good for people watching. After walking around, watching and listening to street performers and getting a bite to eat, we cooled off in one of Portland's many fountains which besides petting all the dogs we passed was the highlight for M+L. Overall it was a nice balanced weekend of getting some things done, getting out and about and relaxing. How was yours?

  1. I really think we've had all your rain this summer. How funny is that. The sun is shining now, but "they" (the weather people) promise me it won't last.

Your weekend looks to be a perfect (sunny!) mix. Really, really delightful. You say you don't love Portland, but it looks pretty nice to me. I think *I'll* come visit YOU!

    1. it has been the nicest summer!! though i think we have gotten your humidity - not really, i've been to the south but we have had some very humid days here which we never get so intensely.

i LOVE portland. i adore portland with all my heart - it's a perfect city in so many ways it's clean and friendly and small and pretty and artsy and crafty and i mentioned clean, right? it's really clean. the weather, however, is really hard to deal with. it can just be grey for months on end. for years on end it feels like. also there is very little diversity here which stinks, it is about the most homogenous place ever. and it's perfectly acceptable to wear shorts and socks with sandals to even the nicest of restaurants. <----those are my gripes and i just want to move to europe :)

    1. I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING! Haha, Rooth, we are on the same wavelength. That brick wall TOTALLY looks like the entrance to Diagon Alley to me, too. Haha.

    2. haha, that wall was right where we parked and luca loved it. he stood there for about ten minutes looking at it. i think it does look like something that holds a secret door or some such thing.

  3. What a glorious weekend you guys had! The weather looks perfect. My favorite might have to be the action shot of Fisher and M/L (I'm so ashamed I can't tell them apart!) playing, haha. They both look so happy! I'm excited to see how that desk project pans out for you guys, too. Promise you'll share before and afters when it's all done? xo

    1. visit in the summer. august is usually always nice so that's a great time to come.

you will get the hang of it! i have always said when people would say "wow , it must be hard having twins!" - that i think it looks a whole lot harder having one infant and a 2 or 3 year old!! new baby twins are always the same age, at the same point, with the same needs. not so much with a baby and a toddler! xo

  8. Your photos of the fun you had at the fountain already caught my eye on Instagram, as I needed something to cool off too. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! Can't wait to see how the found desk looks like when you are finished with it. Sometimes it take me forever to finish something, the latest dresser only took two years from starting to strip it to finally finishing it ;)
