Wanted: Credenza

If you were to ask me what I really, really want right now, I could easily tell you, and you probably have guessed by now, it's a credenza. What I really don't want right now is to buy another piece of large furniture from Ikea. No offense Ikea, if you came to my house you would see I have supported you well. But when you pay $200 for a piece of new furniture one really can't expect it to last foooorever, it doesn't. Not that I need something to last forever but I want to know I could keep it forever and ever if I wanted to. I found a lovely mid-century one at the beginning of the summer for $35, went home to take measurements and by the time I went back it was gone. Yeah, it was a good deal. It's been haunting me since, as well as thrown me into a craigslist trolling obsession in searching for the perfect and perfectly priced credenza. Sure I'd be happy to buy a new one, like this here, but then I'd probably have to live inside of it rather than with it, and I am looking to open up my space, not go for anything smaller. As you can see I am open to different styles, decades, and finishes. So, credenza, if you are out there, please make yourself known to me!

  1. Yes. I understand. There are things I want too. Dining chairs. Coffee table. Just impossible to find. What IS it with that? I feel like you've either pinned these or done a post about them before, am I right? The river is running strong, girlie! I'll have my eye out. My friend Mark does mid-century stuff (as in, sells it), but he's here on the east coast. Shipping might be a bear. But still, I'll hook you up.

Oh, and I can't pick. I'll take them all.

  3. I've always wanted a marble-topped credenza for an entryway one day. One day, because our entryway now is about 3x3 and opens up right to the powder room and living room. So it's not really an entryway so much as a nook by the front door, haha. I'm sending you lots of good thrifting vibes in the hopes you find a credenza soon!! You need Nina, she always finds amazing steals at estate sales and thrift shops! xo

  4. ooo that last one with the white edges and natural wood grain - so gorgeous! and ugh that sucks about the $35 one that got away :( we were really lucky with ours that is a little smaller than these. we saw it in a garage sale that we drove by and the sticker price said $3... and it was half off of that so it was $1.50. the owners just wanted it gone and we were so so lucky (can be seen in a photo in this post: http://www.tender-roots.com/2012/11/holiday-decor-home-work.html). i wish $7,500 would fall out of the sky so you could have that precious piece of wood!

  5. I HATE it when that happens - the opposite of buyer's remorse I suppose. What I really need are more bookshelves but I really don't need to FEED THE MONSTER :) PS - I just finished reading Persepolis. Have you read that one?

    1. yeah, i know. and there was this damn voice saying - just get it! if it doesn't fit you could sale it on craigslist in an hour for the same price. did i listen? obviously not. grrrr. next time i won't be so cautious.

ooo, i haven't read persepolis yet. i feel like i have heard of it though. did you like it? i am going to look it up now :)
