Copper + Black

It's official the days are shorter, or they aren't truly, they just feel that way when the sun sets so much earlier. Which around here with the rain and grey skies can feel very early. This is the time I trade in my love of vintage/estate-sale/curated/eclectic/bohemian designs for heavier dose of the modern. Maybe it's the bling and sparkle that I like at this time of year (like all these copper goods) that brings in a little brightness to the darker days, and that in turn needs a strong backdrop of modern to balance it out. Whatever it is, I have officially decided that my design taste is seasonal. And this season I am really loving the pairing of black and copper. You can see some lovely pins of black and copper interiors here, here and here. What about you, do you think your design tastes change with the seasons?

  1. I do notice that our dark laundry loads get double in size in the winter, is that the same thing? ;) Heavy blankets come out and warm socks too. But I've never paid attention to see if my design mind changes in the winter. Now I will.

  2. i definitely think my design taste changes by season...and in the winter i am always drawn to cozy, industrial/rustic pieces. i think all i want to do is sit by a fire with a cup of tea an a warm blanket :)

  3. Right now, I'm really feeling the jewel tones and metallics that pop up everywhere (especially on Christmas trees). I'm thinking purple and gold for my Thanksgiving table this year (I really can't get away from gold being one of the feature colours for my table!) and I'm crushing on some buffalo plaid pajamas as well. Especially when it's rainy and dreary like it is right now, we need some brightness

  4. Ha, I'm with Lauren. Our dark pile gets bigger the later into the year we go (though you'll still find me wearing all black in June, too, just...shorter everything, haha) but I think home-design-wise we're pretty consistent. Swap out a candle or two for a more seasonable scent, maybe. But I'm a huge fan of the whole dark-at-5-pm situation. In fact, last night I offered to walk the dog (I actually yanked the leash out of J's hand to do it) and took out the trash just so I could go soak up some of that dark, cold weather I love so much. I'm weird! xo

  6. Love those two together and yes they really do reflect the seasonal change. Ugh...makes me feel a little depressed now that it's getting dark so early!

  7. Yes! Suddenly I'm drawn to dark and mysterious ideas for my normally all-white-ish home. I was even thinking of a black wall, but I stopped myself, haha. Love copper, I just haven't found the right stuff and copper metallic spray paint isn't the same thing, lol.

  9. no, I don't think my taste changes all that much. there are always a few days in summer when I wear a flowery billowing dress, something that is SO NOT ME. but usually, after a day or two, it disappears at the back of my wardrobe. I'm pretty consistent throughout the seasons.

    ps: love that sweater!!!!

  10. Love love love copper paired with black! I don't think my tastes change that much over the course of the changing seasons, I just add cozier things to it. Putting a throw or a candle on it makes a total difference. When the evenings get darker I could start to live in candlelight, makes me look better too ;) xo
