Photo Diary | Snow Day |

If you followed me on instagram this weekend you already know, it snowed! Which around here was pretty exciting. I wasn't a believer that it would, mostly because it was so sunny on Thursday without a cloud in the sky and because it never snows here in December. I went to bed Thursday night a non-believer and woke up to snow flurries on Friday morning - I was happily proven wrong (the picture with the smoke stack is the view from my back patio). I wasn't convinced it would last, and I was right about that - it didn't, nor did we get much of it to begin with, so we immediately set out to enjoy it with a little sledding. I am pretty sure this is Marla's first snow considering she was from L.A. and at first she looked at me with some trepidation but after a minute she was rolling around and frolicking in it. As you can see M+L did too (milo is in the green hat - luca is in the black duffle coat). Having a golf course right across the street is very convenient when it snows because, for one, it's literally right across the street which means we don't have to traverse too far in the chilly air, and for two, it has perfect hills for sledding (all the other photos). The cold has stuck around however, oh my, I am not used to these low temperatures! They say we are *suppose* to get more snow tonight too! The rest of the weekend was spent doing christmasy things and trying to stay warm. We got our yearly ornament, did some local small business christmas shopping, watched some holiday movies and decorated the tree. How was your weekend? I see some of you got some wintery weather too.

  1. Hmmm... I have so much to say about this post. Funny little connections. First. I'm trying to tamp down on my envy, but really I'm beyond thrilled for you and your boys that you got SNOW! So exciting, especially in December.

We live down the street from a golf course too, and it really IS the best for sledding, isn't? Especially for us here, where it's SO FLAT. Our only hills, really.

When I was just out of college and Neel and I were living together in PA while he was in graduate school, my dad had come to visit (my grandparents lived nearby). It was March and they had predicted a HUGE snowstorm. It was cold, but they skies were so starry and clear, we just couldn't believe it. No way. We went to bed after a long walk on a moonlit night, still not believing it could happen, and we woke to wind and snow and thunder snow (!). Our dog made us take her out a gazillion times! We ended up with three feet of snow, and it's one of my most special memories.

I can just feel the excitement you all must have felt! XO

    1. i love having the golf course because even though i live in the city and even though it's not a great part of it for walkability, i love that we have all this "empty" land right outside our house. it makes for lots of fabulous walks. now what is snow thunder? that sounds heavenly!! xo

  2. aww these are so cute and that pup! bouncing in the snow and looking up at you! i am quite jealous of you all - i would love to have a snow day right now and then warm up inside with hot cocoa or tea and too exhausted to do anything else besides watch a movie. sigh, you can tell i am dreaming of my trip to the poconos from last december. one of these winters i'm going to have to come visit you!

    1. don't let this fool you, this is not normal! that's why even though there is only about a half of an inch it was pretty exciting. but it usually cold enough to curl up and snuggle with a cup of hot cocoa. and, well, if you love rain (which you probably don't being in Florida) this is the place to be. xo

  4. Marrrlaaaa!! Gah I can't stand the cuteness. It snowed here too yesterday and Fitz wanted to go out and play every five minutes. He'd jump and dive and bounce around in the big snow piles, eat a few mouthfuls, spin excitedly. We'd come back in, dry off, and he'd start licking the snow off my boots and pawing at the front door to go back out. He takes after me :)
You guys look like you had a blast. Look at those hills! Just made for sledding! The last shot with M+L holding Marla just kills me. Marla's name is close to M+Ls names too, if you say them together! xo

    1. oh man, now your snow . . . if that happened here oh my goodness. 4 years ago when M+L were just tiny little things it snowed for about 3 weeks in December, we ended up with about 3 feet. it was so wonderful, probably one of my most favorite winter memories.

agh! don't even get me started on how close marla, milo and luca names are together. i already had a heck of a time now it's just impossible to say anyones name correctly! xo

  5. You make me wish for another snow fall. We had our first two weeks ago, and although I wasn't in the Christmas mood yet, it was so dreamy and beautiful. Snow always brings along a sense of tranquility and peace and I am always wishing for a white Christmas. xo

  6. I love your photos Christine, you're such a great photographer--the photo of Marla so little in the snow makes me laugh. Hope you had a great weekend. It's not snowing here, just chilly but at least it finally feels like winter.

    1. ha, you don't have to be excited. you can love your warmth and shorts wearing weather. i may, however, start being envious of that if this cool weather sticks around much longer. unless it snows again then i stick with the wintery weather. xx

  9. You guys must have had a blizzard on the east side :) we got maybe dusting on the west side. My dogs walk in the snow like little princesses and if I let them out in the snow they sit by the back door and wait to be let in. I would think dogs would love snow right?

Are we really supposed to get more snow? like making snowman snow? !!

    1. we live between hollywood and the airport and whatever little weather belt we seem to be in we usually get the extreme weather - "extreme" being a relative term of course.

last night we got about a cup of snow here. such a let down. but man i am just crossing my fingers for a white christmas!! wouldn't that be the best? it never happens here! xo

  11. Oh my goodness they look like they had a blast. These may be my favourite pictures that you've shared from 2013 (and it's lovely to see your bright and shining face as well). Sometimes a little snow is all we need to find the kid hiding in each of us
