House Tour | Nordic Neutral |

Happy Monday and happy last week of February. That was fast! Usually I am slightly lamenting when I say how quickly time has gone by, but when time moves fast in February I am perfectly fine with it. I am ready for spring (as I might have mentioned a time or two lately), and yesterday was the first day it hadn't rained in a month, literally, and I mean literally in its true definition. Unfortunately I was so tired! I couldn't figure out why exactly, but I am thinking it may just have something to do with the 2 rounds of flu we have had in the last few weeks and the nightly visits to the schools. I am hoping today I can make up for the slothing that I did on the couch all day yesterday. Even though I regretted not getting out into it, it was nice to have the windows open and see the sun shining a bit outside. However due to my lazy state and lack of general care-taking I didn't get to really enjoy my house as much as I like to do on first glorious day of sun after so many days of rain. In fact I was so tired that even after I realized there was a somewhat unpleasant scent emanating from somewhere in my house, rather than hunting it down as soon as possible as I normally would, I just laid on my couch and told myself I'd get used to it. Then I looked at houses until found a house that looks like it probably smells like fresh linens and flowers, and would be wonderful to relax in on such a day. (Luckily I pulled it together before bed & I ended up hunting down that scent later - a rogue potato that had rolled under my kitchen shelf. yuck).

I love the the soft light and mix of (slight) country and nordic design in this home. It just looks so inviting and comfortable. The neutral colors and that ever so modest shade of mint; the color of those eames chairs is so great too. And of course I have to mention the windows. Love those windows.

  2. I hope you guys are recovering and in spring energization mode (look ma, I made up a word!). This winter especially was exhausting. Whenever I look at those Nordic homes, I wonder how they can keep a floor white. That thing must get swept at least twice a day, right??

    1. oh my goodness i sweep about 20 times a day and they still could be swept more. i couldn't imagine if i had white floors, though i do love them.

  3. I love the thread of color that goes through the whole house: wall color, Eames chairs, pendant lights, bed duvet. Very thoughtfully designed and a nice departure from the typical monochrome Scandi apartments. I like February, but I'm okay with saying goodbye to it. Also, I laughed about the potato! Poor thing! xo

    1. it's always a potato at my house! i keep them in a basket on a low shelf and inevitably one always rolls away and gets lost and forgotten every few months. i had no idea potatoes could smell so bad!

  4. I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but is it possible that this house is too neutral for me. Like I have to keep rubbing my eyes in case there's a film over them? I think that's why I like those Nordic homes with the huge dark beams, good contrast.

So I have an equally disgusting smelly story for you. Our car had a funk that kept coming in waves, and I'd had two friends tell me stories of animals crawling up under their hoods, and well... you get the idea. It's been SO cold here this winter. Neel even checked for us, but thankfully, no. So I was at the grocery store and the woman who was bagging our stuff held up this moldy cheese and said, "Is this yours from another trip?" That's why my car smells! YUCK.

    1. it is pretty neutral, but i think it would feel less so in real life. and that kitchen to me is just perfect.

ha, i love your cheese story. it sounds like something that would happen to me, though the culprit would never be cheese, i know where my cheese is at all times :) my friend had a smell for quite awhile in her car, turned out to be a little mousy in her air vents. xoxo

  6. I don't comment very often (shame on me), but your blog is a real gem.
Love those neutral tones, the white kitchen is everything I'd love to have! Hope you're feeling better, I can't wait for the spring either!

  7. What a lovely place, Christine! I like the way the natural light flows into the house and the choice of light greens, greys and whites.
