Patio Pretty

It may rain a lot in Portland but when it is nice outside it's simply beyond-words lovely. That was the day we had yesterday (and I think there's a bit more to come too!). With that I did a some more manual labor done outside in my garden area, pulling periwinkle (never plant that stuff it's evil!) and digging more dirt in an effort to level it all out to make way for the fence that will soon be going in (cross fingers / knock on wood!!). We also went for a long walk with a certain dog that pulls and pulls and digs her heels in when we go in any direction other than her "safe zone," so today my arms and back are sore and tired from all the pulling and digging. But it's worth it. For days like we had yesterday, it's very worth it.

You may remember at the beginning of the year I said one of my goals was to prettify my garden/patio space, this lovely outdoor area from, from JL Design, has been floating around in my head since I first saw it a couple years back. I love the simplicity, the earthy tones, and those tea light on the fence are so pretty.

  1. Awww, Marla. How's she adjusting to her new cut? My sister did tell me it was sunny (and warm). I'm looking for the best time to come. How is May / June in Portland?

    1. she's doing much better. it's grown in a bit so now she's fuzzy and i think that makes her feel much better than bald did! the spinning is lessening ;)

  2. Oh, I long for a pretty patio. This is just full of loveliness. I'd want to be on it all day. I have a love/hate relationship with outdoor space here. We need better furniture, which means $$, and there's such a short window to really enjoy it. After the short glorious days of spring, it's hot and buggy. So I think I need a screened porch instead of a patio. Maybe in the next house.

    1. we do get rain, but when we get nice summers the are pretty long and rarely muggy. so it's a good place to have a good patio. for furniture i am hoping to go for the eclectic look ie thrift stores/estate/garage sales. patio furniture is expensive! xo

  5. How can periwinkle be evil, it has the cutest name! My parents painted the ceiling in my childhood bedroom periwinkle, so maybe I have a soft spot for it. At first glance, I thought his could maybe be your backyard, because of all the work you said you've been doing on it. Sigh, we can both dream! xo

    1. don't let that sweet name fool you, it's terrible stuff. but it was always a favorite color of mine too, because of the name.

haha, you think much too highly of me. i am definitely not that fast or organized, nor could i afford all of those lovely bertoia chairs! xo

  6. I love every bit of it!! It really speaks to me, I feel like I can apply this to the shape of my own back patio. Which needs some serious work also. The weather really was so amazing yesterday, wasn't it? The funny thing about life in the Northwest, is that for most of the year, I couldn't care less about the state of my back yard, but as soon as we get those nice days, few though they may be, I become obsessed with the back yard. I really would like to arrange it someday so that the back might be a nice place to be year round.

  7. Spring is finally showing signs here and the effect beautiful, sunny weather has on me is tremendous. I wish I had a garden, I know it would help relax like few other things do. What a lovely patio! A small space so well put to use.
