House Tour | Summer to Fall |

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

One of my most favorite times of the year are the short two or three weeks we get here in the northwest where we transition from summer to fall. Where it's not quite summer and it's not quite fall yet (although today it is officially fall here!). It's still warm and dry enough to linger outside, but the hot sun has been covered by lower hanging clouds and a freshness in the air - it's perfect for an outside campfire or a long day of sitting by an open window reading books. This is also one of my favorite times to get out in nature, for all of those reasons, and because the mix of green with the golden tones of autumn is just so stunning. When I saw this sweet little house belonging to Alex Kennedy of Melbourne, I found that it pretty much matched the image I have in my head at times like these when I find myself daydreaming about having a little cabin retreat somewhere tucked away in nature.

  1. This house feels very cabin-y doesn't it? It's fall! It really feels fall like here today. Cool and super breezy (might explain my headache yesterday). And we're having a bit of a coastal storm tomorrow. Bring it on. Wish I could cozy up in that sweet spot today. :) Or that we could. With thick socks and cups of tea and a chocolate bar to split and lots to talk about. Of course.

  3. i'm so excited for fall! i enjoy this time of year too. on my morning walk with mordechai i feel a little chill and it goes away by the time i leave for work. but it's a little coolness that i get to enjoy all alone in the morning. :)

  5. Is it wrong of me to think the best detail in the entire space is that adorable sponge on the sink? With the smiley face? I would happily scrub dishes all night if I had that thing! xo

  8. Holy hell, this little house. I'll take it. Is it in the mountains? It doesn't matter. I'll run away here regardless :)

  9. Those weeks between summer and actual fall are among my favourite times of year too. And yes, it's the perfect time for an escape in nature. A cottage somewhere in the woods by the lake would be perfect for that.
