Seeing / Friday morning I went down to "drop off some cards" to display with my work down at West Elm Portland (really I went to see my pillows and notecards all on display and take some photos of it). And I have to say a couple things about it: First, I think it's awesome that West Elm not only features local designers, but is so supportive, not only in inviting me to be a vendor, but then encouraging me to drop off promotion materials. Second, I think my products look pretty awesome in their store! Probably one of my prouder moments in this journey with my business.

Fighting / I finally caught one of the 800 colds my Tiger and Allday Everyday have brought home since starting Kindergarten this year. My head has been so congested the last few days I can hardly recall the weekend.

Embarrassing / Last night I was looking for my phone only to find it deep in the corner of my house nestled in Tigers sticky little hands. After pulling it away I discovered he had just sent a text with exactly 54 emoji's to my small business class Professor. Thirteen of them were the little devil-head ones. (He didn't respond to my apology text. I'll know how he felt about that when I get my grades.)

Buying / After many years I finally found my mid-century danish lounger. The only compromise is I will need to sand it and re-stain it. But the price was right, the aesthetic was right, and the size was perfect.  The fabric may have swayed me a little bit too.

Wanting / Blame it on that darn Vivian Maier documentary but I can't get my mind off wanting to get a twin lens camera. I almost pulled the plug on one this weekend, but impulse buys just aren't my forte. I am still thinking on it though, and hoping if a wave of impulsiveness strikes me this week, it will still be there.

Watching / The oscars of course. I think I was happiest to see Ida win best foreign film and Patricia Arquette for best supporting actress in Boyhood.

Wondering / Watching the oscars also lead me to wondering what is going on in red carpet fashion. There was not one look that wowed me and maybe only about three that I really liked. But while I wasn't impressed with the red carpet I was impressed with a few of the speeches this year. My favorite speeches were far and away this one by Graham Moore and, again, Patricia Arquette with this acceptance speech (love her), and this one by John Legend. (sean penn no longer exists to me. what a . . .)

  1. Bwahahahahahahah. Having been on the receiving end of one of those delightful texts, I can only imagine what your professor thought! We've all accidentally sent errant texts, but I'm going to laugh about that one throughout the day.

I agree with every single thing you've said here. I want you to get that camera and I want me to be standing beside you at West Elm, so I can slip my arm through the crook of your elbow and rest my head against your shoulder and sigh happily. It's one of my prouder moments too. Can I own that too? So, so well deserved my friend. So, so proud of you.

  2. Eeee look at your stuff in West Elm! You have two full shelves in a major, international retailer. Are you pinching yourself? You're taking this awfully well! I think I would be an indeterminate stream of exclamation points and random fainting ;) You should be immensely proud of yourself and of the work you do (not that you need WE as validation, but it certainly doesn't hurt!).

I was falling asleep in bed with the Oscars on last night, but I perked up during John Legend's speech. That might've been the highlight of the otherwise snoozy show for me. xo

  3. so incredibly proud and excited for you! it must've been surreal seeing your work displayed at west elm, but with your talent and aesthetic it shouldn't come as a total surprise either - i love it all, christine!

i need to see that documentary, i am in awe of vivian maier! and by the way, my general rule of thumb is that if you're still thinking about a thing days after you've seen it in the store, then you truley, deeply want it and should therefore have it. also, [selfishly] i'd love to see what you would produce with a twin lens camera! ;)

    1. i don't think my professor has a sense of humor at all, which is why i kind of felt a little bit sick when i saw it. but so far it hasn't affected my grades, so at least he doesn't seem to hold grudges ;) and thank you! xoxo

  8. Christine, your pieces look amazing at West Elm! I had to smile when I read about your embarrassing moment, so funny. Ida winning the Oscar for best foreign language film was also one of my highlights from the Oscars. As for the speeches, I liked Graham Moore's and Julianne's and I loved to see Eddie Redmayne so happy about his win, even though he was not my favourite, and I just wish Patricia Arquette didn't pull out that piece of paper, and put on her reading glasses on top of that, to deliver her speech.

  9. Holy cow! Your pieces look truly amazing at West Elm. I loved West Elm before seeing this post but I love them even more now that I know they sell products from local designers. I'll have to check out our Sydney store to see if they do something similar here. Congrats! Well deserved (oh and your embarrassing story totally made my evening)!!!

    1. i love west elm for that too. much better than just stealing the work of small artists and designers as some companies do : / truly it's wonderful that they do that, and as exciting as it is to be there, it feels really great to be apart of something like that. xo

  12. So much goodness here! How are you Christine?! First of all, congrats on your pillows in West elm! They totally belong there, yay! I was laughing so hard about your phone. I had a friend's teen kids commandeer my phone last summer and start tweeting messages, to each other via @trustyourstyle like: why don't you man up and stop being a douche, etc. And finally, so thrilled for your lounger...and jealous! Can't wait to see it!
