Oh, hello. Long break. Which I realize is the problem with not posting more regularly, it becomes easy to let the days slip by. We've also been sick and busy and cleaning up and catching up and sometimes just doing nothing at all which feels pretty great when we get the chance to that.

Enjoying // I keep hearing all these reports of rainy days, seeing pictures of ice and snow and each time I feel like the world has turned upside down, because here, it's been nothing but sunshine and flower blossoms. Spring certainly seems to have made an early appearance around these parts and I must admit I've been enjoying it immensely.

Aching // Well here's another heartbreaker from the land of motherhood. Yesterday I picked up M+L from school, and Milo said, "mama, I had the best day ever today!" And, I was so excited, I wanted to hear about this, because as those of you who read here regularly know he's had some recent difficulties at school. So I perked up and said "oh, what? why? tell me all about it!" And he said "it was the best day ever because no one was mean to me today!" Ooooooh, that's, um, awesome Milo. That's sooooo great." The other sound anyone nearby might have heard come from me was the sound my heart breaking. I don't even know what to say about that. I just hope he keeps having the best days ever. Oy.

Finishing // I am down to my last few weeks of classes this term! I think I am somehow pulling straight A's which I always did before, but wasn't convinced I would this time. In fact I decided I didn't even want to worry about grades, you know just "do my best." But apparently I can't help it. When I see my grades pop up and I see even a 93% I get a little pouty. I guess I haven't lost the competitive edge I have, with, er, myself.

Deciding // Speaking of school I decided to take one more term and then call it quits for now (forever?). So the blogging break might be just a little bit longer. But I am enjoying it and, considering I have the worst memory ever, I probably should keep at it and give myself the best chance at retaining some of this information I am paying to learn.

Contemplating // I am kind of, sort of, maybe thinking about Disneyland. I was pretty set on it, daydreaming about it's a small world, picturing M+L excitedly rushing up to their favorite characters to fill their autograph books, and me taking pictures of palm tress and being warm. And then I looked at the admission tickets into the park and the cynic in me quickly pictured something more along the lines of me, a frenetic and sweaty mess standing in lines for hours on end, crying as I forked over twenty dollars for a snowcone, dragging my children and luggage from airports to buses all in the span of a few days. But. With M+L being 6 I can't think of a better time to go. Unless I wait a year, maybe a year from now would be better?

Have a great weekend!

  1. aw milo, i hope every day from here on out is the best day ever. i must admit, it seems as though he has not lost his optimism, which is important. and disneyland! ah! i'm like you and i prefer to only go to theme parks when my friends give us comp tickets. the prices O_O. but if you're only going to go once, i think it would be totally worth it for the boys!

    1. i am happy to report that he's been having some pretty good days since then!
i think the last time i went to disneyland (with my grandparents) the total was $75! which at the time seemed like so much money to me. ha!

  2. oh no. that's horrible. I hope he keeps having good days too. but I guess dealing with mean people is part of life and part of what they need to learn. still. it is heartbreaking. and wow. I heard of the nice weather in Portland. the sister of one of my Parisian friends lives there. but I had no idea how nice you have it :) enjoy the weekend xoxo

    1. the little girl that hurt his feelings originally seems to feel terrible, but everyday she reports to me about bringing him treats and how much she loves him. so i've got my stink on milo this week. as much as i don't want him getting "picked on" i certainly don't want him taking away the lesson from that being one of emotional manipulation! ;)

  3. Gorgeous photos, so calming, lovely colours! Oh boy, yes, that's tough, but I guess here's hoping for every day to be the best day ever until that becomes the normal!
Autumn is just on its way here, still hot, but a few crazy rainy showers in between!

  4. Oh hello.... I miss you! I'm hunkered down all day today to work on my own classes, but you can bet there'll be a chatty email being sent in there somewhere too! :) So much to say. My heart breaks for sweet Milo too, just wrenching to hear that. But I agree with Yelle: his optimism is infectious! Maybe it really is just a phases that all the kids go through, the teasers and the teased, alike.

YOU GO, GIRL on school! Wa-hoo! Totally not surprised but completely impressed. I'm glad you'll keep on a bit longer... I want to soak up everything you learn. :) And whew. Tough call on Disney. Seven *might* be better, but now is always great too. I truly, truly (having just come back from a great spring break) think that you won't regret a minute of it once you get there. XO

    1. you can read the comment i left to petra on how the kindergarten drama is unfolding there. but, all in all, i think he's bounced back ;)

and, yes, super happy to take another term. my final undergrad term (unless i win the lottery at which point i will take alltheclasses forever). i do actually think 7 would be better, but here is a shameful mothering thought i have: their pictures would be so cute this year with their front teeth missing. (as opposed to the snaggle-tooth age. i am a terrible person) xo

  5. Spring has certainly come earlier in your parts. Still no sign of tree blossom here. We had snow on Friday. I think it's great that you're taking another term of school, it's obvious that you are in a place that brings you great satisfaction. As for Disneyland, it's no better time than the present.

    1. school has been so good. i've missed it a lot. when i went the first time it was so degree oriented (a degree i've barely used at that), and this feels completely different from that (and i enjoyed that immensely too!).

  6. You know what, I will take Milo's Great Day and wish him a bajillion more on top of it. Sometimes that's the most we can expect - for people not to be mean. Everything else is bonus otherwise. Doesn't that sound not too bad? And good on you for your stellar effort at school. You get a gold star, momma!

    1. happily he is continuing to have great days. and i hope they are becoming normal days. i think at 6 great days involve getting an ice cream cone or getting an extra recess. i figure we have loads of time to base good days from bad days on whether people are mean to us or not! 6 is too soon!

  7. Spring is catching up here, finally! It snowed a good 6-8" at the end of last week, but tomorrow it's going up to 60 degrees. Send some of those cherry blossoms this way, please!! Lovely lovely photos, the crisp spring air is almost tangible.
My parents took me to Disneyworld for the first time when I was 6, and I think it was a good age! But there was only one of me, haha. I think those kiddos of yours would be as happy spending time with you in Disneyland as they would be anywhere, so don't overexert yourself if you're on the fence. Though, not going to lie, I imagine M+L in those little mouse ear hats and I just diieeee. xoxo

    1. i went when i was 5 or 6 and it was magical!! but i hardly remember it. so i kind of would like to wait. i am no disney fanatic so i think if we go once, that will likely be it. still debating but now leaning a little more towards next year. xo

  8. ohmygoodness, yes! a slowing down in posting can almost lure one into comfortable withdrawal. i myself have sort of liked it! but i miss everyone too and am glad to see you here. and with all these happy spring blooms too!
but milo, oh milo. that sweet boy. i hope he has nothing but great days from here out and with each one better than the last! being a twin, i wonder about luca. how is he taking this? do they share the same class? my sister and i were in different classes throughout all of elementary school - with the exception of 4th grade, which was nice because i always had someone who had my back - but being separated the rest of the time also gave us autonomy too, so i don't know which i preferred. but even now, as grown women, my heart suffers just as deeply whenever she does. it's a special bond, this twin thing. xo

    1. luca is good. they are so different! i'd say luca is more type A and milo type B. so milo needs those emotional connections and i think when he feels misunderstood it bothers him deeply, where luca will just move on to something he can control ;) despite being in the same class, at school, they do their own thing. however, with that said, it's obvious they are always totally aware of the other because they often report on each other to me to fill in the gaps. xo
